Lead Magnet System 2.0

The simple system I used to grow my email list & get my first 1,000 subscribers.

Estimated Reading Time: (5-7 minutes)

"How do I grow my email list fast?"

If your email list isn't growing…

Or simply you don’t know how to grow one…

There’s 2 main levers you can pull:

  • Newsletter: Directly promote a weekly newsletter.

  • Lead Magnet: Offer a resource in exchange for their contact details.

Today I will teach you how to do both at the same time.

Wait what?

Let me explain…

For context:

In the past 12 months, my newsletter drove 1500+ subscribers for me.

Also — I grew my total audience from 0 to 10k across LinkedIn & Threads.

That is with 30 articles posted inconsistently,

And 3 months of no marketing & zero posts.

If I can do it — You can do it too.

In this email, I'll show how to:

  • Attract your dream client.

  • Grow your email list 2x faster.

  • And increase your rented to owned audience conversion by 25%+

Warning: This is a very long framework, I recommend sitting down, getting rid of all distractions, and fully focusing on understanding the key principles of what makes a Lead Magnet.

This is all you need to know about Lead Magnets - the ultimate resource!

I’m giving all of this information for free…

So you don't need to pay thousands of dollars for coaching, courses, or digital products.

If you’re new to the roadmap newsletter…

This is the direct continuation of the Lead Capturing System.

In that framework we explained how to:

  • Transfer attention to an opt-in page.

  • How to structure the opt-in page to increase conversions.

  • And the best way to capture the contact details of a stranger.

If you haven't read that one…

Check it out — so you can fully understand how to apply this framework:

Introduction

After reading the lead capturing system…

Now you understand how to position your landing page in a way to increase conversions.

The next natural step is to learn how to develop a lead magnet.

A lead magnet is a free asset or special deal offered in exchange for contact details.

It can be a:

  • Discount code.

  • White paper.

  • Template.

  • Webinar.

  • eBook.

  • Etc.

The options are limitless.

To turn followers into an email list…

You need to provide them a reason to give you their contact details.

The same way you exchange money for a product.

You need to offer something valuable to get their email in exchange.

How do I know what to give?

Follow this step-by-step:

  • Focus on the main problem you solve.

  • Break it down into multiple milestones.

  • Develop something that will help them get to milestone 1.

Lead Magnets also come in multiple forms,

but the goal is always the same:

  • To offers your prospects incredible value,

  • Typically in the form of a solution,

  • Without asking them to purchase anything.

With this framework…

You will learn the exact step-by-step process to develop a high-value lead magnet.

Plus — I will teach you how to incorporate your newsletter in the strategy.

That being said — let’s dive in:

Pro tip:

When you offer information as an incentive, make sure it solves a burning problem.

This is the first exchange of value your prospect makes with your business.

You can’t simply trick people into giving you their contact details and then send them a crappy two-page free ‘report’ that is simply a promotional piece about your company.

The goal is to wow them with this experience.

If done right…

You will gain trust & move your prospect a step closer to working with you.

Step 1: Craft an Irresistible Offer.

The key to a successful lead magnet is to put yourself in your customer's shoes.

Ask yourself:

"What would be so irresistible that they just can't say no?

Your lead magnet should be:

a) Desirable and relevant to your target audience.

b) Insanely valuable - they'd be willing to pay for it.

A mistake many people make…

Is trying to make the lead magnet a "half solution".

And that simply is not going to work.

Even if it is for free…

You don’t want someone giving you a half-drink.

Instead…

Always provide a complete solution:

  • Wrong: The first 4 minutes of a 20-minute masterclass.

  • Right: Hyper-specific checklist for optimizing your Threads profile.

Step 2: Create an Attention-Grabbing Headline.

The second most critical part of this process is having an attention-grabbing headline.

A headline…

That stops your prospects in their tracks, grabs them by the throat, and creates so much intrigue that it practically forces them to give you their contact details.

We already dived in, on how to develop attention-grabbing headlines.

If you want the exact step-by-step process…

Check the Perfect Headline Framework:

Step 3: Focus on Actionable Advice.

The minimum-viable-lead-magnet has 3 things:

  1. A short introduction to the problem it solves.

  2. Actionable advice to solve a specific problem.

  3. One clear call-to-action (CTA) for the next step.

Remember, your lead magnet should be a "perfect partial solution".

It completely solves one specific problem.

That makes the reader think:

"Wow, if Sebastian helped me solve this problem, I bet he can solve my other problems too"

Give away the secrets — sell the implementation.

Step 4: Focus on Pain Points.

Make sure every point in your lead magnet — touches on a burning question.

If you’re writing a report or an eBook…

Do this in every section of the information you are going to provide.

For example:

Your target is a start-up business.

The most common pain points of this market are:

  1. Limited Budget

  2. Unclear Target Audience

  3. Brand Awareness

  4. Lack of Marketing Expertise

  5. Inconsistent Messaging

  6. Choosing the Right Channels

  7. Content Creation

  8. Lead Generation

  9. Measuring ROI

  10. Scaling Strategies

Let’s take Lead Generation as your main topic.

Your eBook can look like...

The 10-Step Lead Generation System.

The secret strategies that the most successful business owners use to generate 100,000 leads x/month on autopilot.

What’s inside:

  1. How to get leads, with no money, and work your way in.

  2. How to easily find your target audience and know exactly how to reach them.

  3. Discover the 3 frameworks to develop a brand and get more reach.

  4. etc.

Pro tip:

Get good at writting headlines.

Even if you are not a copywriting expert…

You can provide insane value, with little effort to no effort.

And flood your business with leads as a result.

This is why step 2 is so important.

If you learn how to develop headlines…

You can easily turn any problem into a compelling solution for your target audience.

Step 5: Lead Magnet Types.

There are 3 main types of lead magnets:

1. The Problem Revealer:

Helps your audience find a hidden problem (and positions your product as the solution).

I.e. "5 audience-building mistakes founders make on LinkedIn"

2. The Sampler:

Gives a small taste of your paid offering, leaving them wanting more.

Give away one lesson of your paid course. Or a masterclass recording.

3. The Quick Win:

Provides a specific, achievable result in a short timeframe. I.e.

"Steal my proven system to find 100 content ideas in 25 minutes"

Once you've chosen your type…

Decide on the best format for delivering your lead magnet.

Step 6: Choose the Format.

  • Toolkit.

  • Ebooks.

  • Quizzes.

  • Podcast.

  • Interview.

  • Swipe file.

  • Checklists.

  • Templates.

  • Live Demo.

  • Case study.

  • Infographic.

  • Assessment.

  • White papers.

  • Cheat sheets.

  • How-to guide.

  • Physical product.

  • FREE Consultation.

  • Courses (Email and Video).

I recommend starting with reports and eBooks.

They are really easy to create.

The best part?

You can have one up and running, sucking leads in no time.

Write a short report (5-6 pages) and convert it into a PDF.

Don’t let the simplicity fool you.

Some of the most popular lead magnets I’ve ever seen were only eight pages.

You don’t even NEED to write your report from scratch.

  • You could compile your most popular blog posts,

  • Turn it into a one easy-to-digest guide,

  • Jazz it up with basic styling,

  • And convert it into a PDF.

Here’s another idea:

  • Grab a series of reports from other people,

  • condense the best and most useful findings,

  • and create something unique of your own.

You can also do this:

  • Interview experts on a subject,

  • Compile the answers into a report,

  • Write an irresistible title, and away you go.

It doesn't matter.

Do not limit yourself — be creative.

Step 7: Upload the Thing.

Use Gumroad to deliver your lead magnet and capture email addresses.

No need for fancy setup, landing pages or automation sequences.

Follow this simple process:

  • Write welcome email.

  • Upload PDF with thumbnail.

  • Write the title & description.

  • Upload.

  • Start getting leads.

Step 8: Promote your stuff.

The more people see your lead magnet…

The more subscribers you get (and the more money you make).

Here's how I promote my lead magnets:

  1. On LinkedIn - share it in your featured profile section and under each relevant post.

  2. On Threads - feature it in your profile & in your linktree.

Keep it simple.
